The Oscars
One of the many things I miss about Michael is that he was always up for fun and he almost always said YES to life and all my crazy ideas (I actually can’t think of one time he said no).
I don’t LOVE the Oscars but I do LOVE having fun ❤️ Last year for the Oscars Bill had an obligation so Michael and I knew we would have the girls Sunday night.
On Sunday morning we went up and visited Michael’s sweet Mom and then on the way home I said, “let’s have an Oscar party! Let’s make fun food, have fancy drinks (LaCroix and Lemonade 🙌🏼), dress up, walk the red carpet, and play movie charades... what do you think?”
“This is #7,654 things I love about you, you make life so much fun and the girl’s childhood magical. Yes!” He drove straight to party city, we bought a table cloth, some movie props, plates, cups and an Oscar 😀
At 5:30PM we went into the girls room, interrupted them playing school, and we handed them an invitation to the Oscars and said they had to be red carpet ready by 6PM.
We had already set up our “red carpet” which was a red plaid sheet Michael had for decades, the appetizers were made, the fun party drinks and fancy glasses were out so all we had to do was get dressed. After telling the girls Michael and I ran upstairs to our room to make sure they understood the time rush and excitement 😂
We got upstairs and I see that Michael’s Oscar outfit was on the bed ready to go 💕. He must have come up after the grocery store run and picked it out. I paused and took in my gratitude for being with a man who loved being loved, who said YES to life and then fully jumped in because he loved being “a part of”. I was so grateful to be with a man who made my girls feel loved as if they were his own children... and it’s not that they NEEDED a Dad, they have one that loves them very much, but Bill and I agree that the more people in our kids life to love on them, the better off they are.
So I took in the moment, my gratitude, I remember looking at the bed, his outfit, his blue eyes, his smile. I took a deep breath in to imprint this moment in my mind because it’s a million little beautiful moments that made up our BIG BEAUTIFUL LIFE and I knew that even when I was living them.
I picked out my fancy dress and we met our girls for the Oscars and threw a tie on Dutch so he could walk the carpet too 🐶
The girls were crazed with excitement and enjoyed an evening of pretend and imagination. Maddie won the Oscar last year for a charades role she had ❤️
On Sunday I will have an Oscars party ready for the girls... it won’t be easy. It won’t be the same. I won’t have my “Partner in Fun”. I won’t be able to snuggle in bed with him after and laugh about our night and how I slipped going up the stairs and almost knocked us both down 😂😬. BUT one thing I know for sure is that Michael wants us to continue having a big beautiful life and the way I can honor him is by being the person he loved so deeply. Being the Mom he loved and continue our crazy traditions and memory making.
I also KNOW we are so much more than the body and he will be around to see my red carpet outfit and to see the performances by the girls on Oscar night.
We will miss our handsome Dutch in his tie.
