My Favorite Irishman

I wish I could kiss you because you’re Irish and for so many other reasons my love.
Last year Michael asked me to go to a special store that his friend Jack recommended, to get the corned beef.  I stood for over an hour in line, made new friends, pretended I was Irish for an hour, looked up how to cook corned beef (easy peasy), ate 3 Crunchie bars, and sang “oh Danny boy” with my new friends .

I left with corned beef, Irish candy bars (Crunchie) for the kids (rrrrrrigght), and a smile on my face. We spent the day cooking the corned beef, playing games with the girls and their friends, Michael had a Guinness and we relaxed and enjoyed our big beautiful life.  We didn’t take moments for granted and we certainly didn’t take our love for granted. This is a classic example of our life: seemingly unmemorable day that etched itself in my memory because I worked (and work daily) on being present so I didn’t miss a moment with him, I fully emerged myself in his love and returned it , and I knew that I was lucky to have what we had and I expressed gratitude daily for it.  I wish I could have kissed my Irishman and felt his embrace on this cold St Patty’s Day.

Yesterday, I cleaned the house, helped a friend move and then around 6:20 one of his dear friend’s wives stopped by to pick something up and she stayed until after 12am. We cralked (cry/talk), we laughed and we told Michael stories ️.  I love talking to her about Michael because she so deeply loved him too, she knows how special he was and she knows the depth of what we shared.  I have no doubt he loved that we were together.

And again... even with this huge loss of an unconditional love, I’m aware of how much love is around me and how lucky  I am to have her friendship.
Today, to celebrate my boy and all his Irishness, I will visit friends in the morning, take a walk in the woods that we always walk in, and see some my Italian family.
